Ashby sports club celebrated as Club of the Year at Let’s Get Moving Awards

Local athletes, sports clubs and community groups were celebrated at the North West Leicestershire Let's Get Moving Awards on Thursday 27 November.
The awards celebrate all aspects of community sports, recognising spirit, dedication and resilience through sports.
The Ashby Baggers Cornhole Club, the UK's largest cornhole club, won the Club of the Year award for bringing together people of all ages through sport.
Speaking about Ashby Baggers, North West Leicestershire District Council said: 'Founded in 2024, Ashby Baggers Cornhole Club has grown into the UK's largest cornhole club.
'Three members rank in the UK's top 10, with three representing Great Britain at the World Championships in Croatia.
'Inclusive and accessible, the club welcomes players aged 10 to 75, offering a unique way to enjoy this fast-growing sport.'
Team of the Year was awarded to Coalville Town FC Women's Team.
Cobain Wilkinson, a dedicated karate champion whose hard work and talent have earned national titles, was awarded the Sportsperson of the Year award.
The Let's Get Moving Hero award was given to Jenni Sawyer, a local hero whose commitment to getting people active has made a real difference in the local community.
Lauren Aley was awarded Disabled Person of the Year for her hard-work and determination inspiring others to get involved in community sport.
According to North West Leicestershire District Council, 'Lauren is a remarkable young girl with Down Syndrome who is redefining inclusion in sport.
'As a proud player at Ingles Inclusive FC, she brings courage, joy and determination to the pitch, inspiring everyone around her.
'Her passion for football and repeated recognition as trainee of the week prove that disability is no barrier for achievement. Lauren is paving the way for more young girls with disabilities to feel empowered and included in sport.'
The Let's Get Moving for Health award went to Jack Bailey, who was commended for his resilience, overcoming health challenges to excel in go-karting and inspire others.
Freya Talbot-Lander was awarded the Active Mums Award, recognised for her leadership and empathy while creating a nurturing and supportive space for mums to stay active and connected.'
Carole Spencer received the Outstanding Contribution Award for her decades of dedication to badminton, nurturing young talent and promoting inclusion in community sport.
Councillor Michael Wyatt, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change at NWLDC, said: 'The Let's Get Moving Award event is always a brilliant time to showcase talent across our district.
'The dedication, passion, and teamwork demonstrated by everyone here tonight inspire us all to embrace healthier and more active lifestyles.
'Congratulations to all the winners – you are not just excelling in your fields, but you are also making a real difference in our community.'
