Ashby police say they are taking action to stop car cruising on the A511 bypass.

This is in response to the public raising issues with vehicles meeting and driving in an anti-social manner (cruising) in and around Ashby.

But it is a particular problem on the A511, close to where the new Money Hill estate is being built.

The Ashby Police newsletter says: "After we completed a great deal of work with Tesco, Ashby, to help alleviate a similar issue in their car park, it appears the issues have merged out around the town.

"We will focus on the impact these individuals are having on our public roads and take appropriate action against them for speeding, driving in an anti-social manner or engaging in cruise activity where it puts public safety at risk.

"We have also focused on satellite meeting points around the A511 bypass used by car cruisers.

"These locations include Loverose Way and the Boundary Island.

"Any car cruisers we have encountered at these locations have been spoken to and advised that we are monitoring their activity and will take action if required.

"One driver was warned for excessive speed and has been prosecuted for document offences."

Ashby Police also say that they are monitoring the speed of motorists in Wood Street.

The newsletter adds: "You said there are problems with speeding vehicles and a general buildup of traffic issues on Wood Street, Ashby, due to the work being carried out on the Money Hill development.

"We will focus our attention on speed enforcement and other related traffic issues in and around Wood Street. We have conducted 12 dedicated patrols on Wood Street with a view to degrade, disrupt and discourage excessive speed at the location.

"We have also conducted three High Visibility Static Observations, monitoring in excess of 851 vehicles. We have visited and dealt with two parking complaints in the area. We will keep you posted on the work we complete and any results of note."

The Police also said they have checked on reports of drug misuse and violent acts in and around Hood Park.

They said: "You told us that there are issues with predominantly young people using drugs and getting into fights on Hood Park in Ashby

"We will aim to reduce these issues and support local residents who have voiced their concerns over incidents of such activity over the next three months.

"We have conducted eight dedicated patrols on Hood Park. We have not seen any ASB or drug related activity at the location and none has been reported."
