An Ashby de la Zouch opticians has been collecting non-perishable food items for the local foodbank as part of its ongoing support for community initiatives.

Colleagues at Specsavers in Market Street have been donating one item for every customer feedback form they receive to the Ashby foodbank (Holy Trinity PCC), donating an impressive 336 items in October and November.

To continue their support, the team also donated 70 advent calendars to be distributed to families in the community during the lead-up to the festive period.

Kuljinder Bains, store director at Specsavers Ashby said: "We've been supporting Ashby Foodbank throughout the year and as we enter the colder months, we're keen to continue donating what we can.

"Sadly still so many people in our local community are struggling due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, so they rely on this vital service.

"I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has filled out a customer feedback form this year.

"The support we've received so far has been brilliant and we're looking forward to continuing donating to the foodbank.

"We believe every member of the community should have access to a hot meal, so we're proud to be able to offer our support to help make a difference."

Ashby Foodbank provides three days' of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis.

The charity is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
