An Ashby nursery has been given the go-ahead to build a new classroom in its garden.

The Ashby Castle Day Nursery in North Street applied for permission to build a new single storey building.

Now, North West Leicestershire District Council has given the green light for the new room.

An officers report says: "The building is required to help provide additional space for the nursery while a large extension is constructed on part of the site.

"Once the extension has been completed, the classroom would then provide office space for the nursery.

"It would not be visible from any public vantage point owing to its single storey scale and its location behind the existing nursery buildings and behind lots of mature trees which are protected by their Conservation Area location.

"Even views from the adjacent Mill Lane Mews public footway are screened by high level boundary walls and trees.

"The Conservation Officer is satisfied overall that the proposal would not harm the significance of the conservation area or listed buildings nearby.

"The proposed development would be acceptable in terms of impact upon visual and residential amenities, heritage impacts, highway safety, trees and impact on the River Mease."
