Ashby MP Andrew Bridgen says Health Secretary Matt Hancock should resign if today's (Friday) newspaper revelations affect the ability to do is job.

But he added that those who support him will continue to show that support.

Mr Bridgen, Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire, was speaking following a front page story in The Sun which showed him breaking social distancing guidance after pictures of him kissing an aide.

Mr Hancock apologised said he had "let people down" after photos emerged of him with Gina Coladangelo - whom he appointed - and was "very sorry".

Labour urged the Prime Minister to sack Mr Hancock, calling his position "untenable".

But Downing Street said Boris Johnson accepted Mr Hancock's apology and "considers the matter closed".

Mr Bridgen told the BBC: "The question for Mr Hancock is, has the situation affected his performance of his role?

"If it has, then he should resign.

"The Prime Minister will make the same judgement.

"Ultimately, it is a personal issue. I think those who disapprove of the Health Secretary will call for his head.

"And those who support him will continue to support him."
