Sands United FC Ashby has been awarded £500 from Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, after being announced as the winner of the housebuilder's Community Chest competition.

Residents living in Ashby and the surrounding local area were invited to nominate local good causes.

Once all of the entries were considered, Taylor Wimpey awarded Sands United FC Ashby with the top prize.

The football team, which is part of the stillbirth and neonatal death (Sands) charity, was set up for those affected by child loss, offering a support network where they can talk about their grief.

In a heartfelt tribute, the players honour the memories of their babies by proudly displaying their names on the kits worn at every match ensuring that their short lives are never forgotten and remain a cherished part of the team's spirit.

Matt Buckley, Founder of Sand United FC Ashby, said: "Sands United FC Ashby are so very grateful for the donation of £500 from Taylor Wimpey East Midlands towards our cause.

"This contribution will greatly aid our mission to provide a safe space where men who have experienced child loss can meet, share their feelings, and support each other.

"The funds will help ensure the future of the club and enable us to offer support not only through internal communications but also through private counselling when necessary. A big thank you from everyone associated with the club."

Steven Clarke, Technical Director at Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, said: "We are incredibly proud to support Sands United FC Ashby through our Community Chest competition.

"This team provides invaluable support to those who have experienced unimaginable loss, and their dedication to honouring their children is truly inspiring. We hope this contribution helps them continue their important work and brings some comfort to those who need it most."
