Technical problems meant that Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's first meeting since March had to be postponed on Monday evening.

The council was due to hold a 'virtual' meeting with councillors and members off the public joining via a computer link.

But a glitch meant that the meeting could not take place.

It was frustrating for the council as two practice meetings had gone ahead previously with no problems.

The meeting has now been re-scheduled for next Monday and the council has posted a link on its Facebook page for any members of the public who would like to participate.

With the planned meeting unable to happen on Monday, the council posted: "Due to technical issues we are postponing tonight's meeting until next week. Apologies to anyone waiting to join the meeting."

On Tuesday, new details were made available and they read: "Please find below details of the next Town Council meeting that will be taking place on Monday 27th July 2020 at 6:30pm via Zoom virtual meetings.

"All are welcome to join. Please allow extra time to log in as the meeting will start promptly at 6:30pm.

Please note: the public participation session is available in the early part of the meeting and is limited to 30 minutes.

The link to join the meeting can be found here:

The full agenda can be found on the council's website.

Government Coronavirus restrictions meant that the council has not met for four months which means that an online method of carrying out local authority business has had to be found until it is considered safe for councillors to meet in the same room again.

Social distancing guidelines mean that is currently not possible.
