Ashby de la Zouch Town Council says more than 2,000 came to the Market Street Jubilee Party yesterday (Sunday) - despite the wet weather conditions.

The new town Mayor Cllr John Deakin and the Deputy Lieutenant Alison Smith officially opened the event at noon.

A best dressed window competition and best dressed table competition were also judged by John and Alison - with The Children's Society on Market Street winning the window competition, and table 45 Ruth Foster winning the table competition.

They were both presented with a certificate, Platinum Jubilee commemorative mug, spoon and tote bag.

Ashby Town Centre manager Stuart Benson said: "Well done Ashby, you certainly know how to party and celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

"It was great to see so many turning out, making such a great effort with decorating your table and dressing up for the occasion.

"The weather did not dampen your spirits and it was great to see so many smiling faces.

"Radar Event Services for keeping the crowd entertained and creating an amazing atmosphere.

"We hope everyone had a fantastic day as I know we certainly did.

"It was a truly amazing day and such a great community spirit."

Leader of Ashby de la Zouch Town Council Cllr John Coxon said:"A lot of hard work went into putting on the Jubilee Street Party celebrations and I would like to thank all the businesses who took the time to decorate their windows and for all of the public who attended the event.

"It was truly amazing to see the town come alive and see the community embracing the celebrations, the atmosphere was fantastic and I would like to thank everyone involved in helping Ashby de la Zouch go down in history for how we came together to mark Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee."
