Residents and staff at Ashby Court Bupa Care Home  have marked Silver Sunday – the national day that celebrates the older generation, coming together and connecting with the community around them to help boost wellbeing.

The celebrations, organised by the activities team at the Ashby-based home, included an afternoon tea, followed by a sing-along performance from local entertainer David Etherton, from Music Memories.

To create as much of a memorable celebration as possible, the team at the Bupa care home also hosted a special guest - Councillor John Deakin, Mayor of Ashby.

The Silver Sunday activities were a particular hit for Lillian Goodrum, a resident at Ashby Court.

Lillian, aged 95 years old, commented: "Thank you so much to the care home team for organising such a lovely event.

"It was a really lovely afternoon, singing and reminiscing."

Janet Barnes, another resident at Ashby Court, added: "It was wonderful, and I really enjoyed it."

Sally Shorthouse, Ashby Court's administrator, commented: "It was really nice that the Mayor and his wife were able to join us, chatting with the residents and even serving them with the afternoon tea buffet.

"The kitchen staff deserve a big thank you as the spread they put on was incredible – it's safe to say that no one went to bed hungry!"

Teresa Millar, Home Manager at Ashby Court Bupa Care Home, added: "All of the team and residents had a brilliant time celebrating Silver Sunday.

Ashby Mayor Cllr John Deakin also paid a visit

"Here at Ashby Court, we know how important it is for older people to continue to enjoy new activities and to connect with one other.

"We look forward to continuing to host activities that put a big smile on our residents' faces!"

Ashby Court Bupa Care Home is situated in Tamworth Road and welcomes residents in need of nursing or residential care.
