Ashby councillor sets out aims for year ahead after being made Chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council
Ashby councillor Kenny Horn has set his aims for the town after being appointed Chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council in its 50th anniversary year.
He has also named Steps as his chosen charity for the year ahead.
Cllr Horn also says he is planning to be involved in a number of opportunities to get involved across the district after his appointment last month.
He said: "I'm delighted to be appointed Chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council in this historic 50th anniversary year.
"There are lots of events and activities planned throughout this important year to celebrate the people, places and heritage that make up North West Leicestershire.
"Alongside my duties to represent the whole district, my focus will centre on a number of initiatives and priorities.
"I have decided to continue the great work done by my predecessor, Cllr Ray Morris. Ray has raised over £12000 for Steps charity during his year as Chairman, which is a fantastic achievement.
"I am organising a series of events that I hope the community will support. As an Ashby Councillor, I hope to host many fundraising events in and around the town."
Cllr Horn - whose Ashby Sport Fun Day returns to the Bath Grounds on June 30 - is also focusing on sports and recreation facilities.
He added: "Health and wellbeing is an important topic across the whole district.
"As our town develops, it is important we have sufficient infrastructure to support that growth in way of healthcare, education, crime prevention and other local services.
"The sports and recreation facilities must also keep pace with this growth.
"I hope to progress the conversation to improve existing sports and recreation facilities along with additional provision where possible.
"Also, as a local business owner, I understand the need to support local commerce and trade.
"Ashby and other North West Leicestershire towns are already seeing some inward investment but we can do more to encourage further interest.
"We can also do more to support our existing small businesses. There are a number of initiatives already underway to increase trade and commercial growth. I will do whatever I can to ensure the local business community is not disadvantaged."
The Conservative councillor also added: "I am extremely grateful to the people of Castle Ward Ashby who elected me to the District Council in May 2023.
"Whilst my responsibility is to the whole North West Leicestershire district, as an Ashby Councillor, I will do whatever I can to promote this historic market town and, whenever possible, showcase the wonderful characteristics of this great place to live."
