An Ashby-based charity has been awarded £19,440 in National Lottery funding.

Hereditary Brain Aneurysm Support's will use the funds to support the organisation's work to reach more people who need them.

HBA delivers support and information nationally to people affected by hereditary brain aneurysms and their families.

It provides essential resources, supports vital research, and raises awareness about brain aneurysms - bringing hope to the thousands of people affected by the condition.

The new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund will enable HBA Support to:

• Develop new patient guides for those who suspect they have a pattern of brain aneurysms in their family or are undergoing screening, providing much-needed clarity and support during what can be a worrying and uncertain time.

• Launch a new peer-to-peer support group on Facebook, offering a safe space for individuals to connect, share experiences, and support each other.

• Create video content and photography that captures and brings to life patient and family stories, helping to create a picture of shared experiences and raise awareness of the condition.

• Support and highlight the hope that current and future research brings to the community, showcasing advances and developments that could make a significant difference in the lives of those affected.

• Host a series of webinars during Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month in September, 2024, focusing on topics such as current research and living with the worry of the condition.

HBA Support says these initiatives are just a glimpse of what is to come.

The UK's first patient-centred organisation says it is dedicated to providing information and support for people and families affected by hereditary brain aneurysms, and continues to expand its efforts to bring the community together, providing a much-needed voice to those living with a rare disease.

Since its inception in 2022, HBA Support has been dedicated to building a community for families affected by hereditary brain aneurysms.

It works closely with the medical, research, and policy communities to improve information and research, ensuring that those affected receive the support they need.

Rebecca Middleton, Founder and CEO of HBA Support, said: "We are thrilled that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised our work, and the importance of supporting individuals and families affected by brain aneurysms.

"Thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to introduce several new resources and initiatives that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our community members.

"This funding is a significant step forward in our mission to provide support, raise awareness, and foster hope."

The National Lottery Community Fund recently launched its strategy, 'It starts with community,' which underpins its efforts to distribute at least £4 billion of National Lottery funding by 2030.

As part of this, the funder is committed to supporting communities to come together, be environmentally sustainable, help children and young people thrive, and enable people to live healthier lives.
