The Conservatives have edged into the lead in North West Leicestershire's election race, according to a new Nub News Readers' Poll.

Two weeks ago, Labour's Amanda Hack was narrowly ahead in our independent poll, but results published this morning (June 28) show Tory candidate Craig Smith has now moved slightly in front.

The survey of newsletter subscribers in Ashby and Coalville found just over 37 per cent of readers would vote for Mr Smith, if the election were held today.

This is a rise from the 33 per cent of readers backing the Conservative candidate a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile, Ms Hack has slipped from 36 per cent on June 14 to 33 per cent this time around.

But the two candidates are still ahead of the rest of the pack, with Reform's Noel Matthews the only other candidate polling in double digits (17 per cent).

The results continue to make tough reading for Independent Andrew Bridgen (five per cent) who is looking to retain the seat he won as a Conservative.

He was tied with Carl Benfield of the Green Party, who has seen a slight drop in support across the two polls.

Coalville Nub News polled 410 newsletter subscribers between 12.30pm on Wednesday (June 26) and 11.59 on Thursday. Readers were only able to register a single vote for one of the seven candidates. Results were not weighted demographically and did not include the Castle Donington or Kegworth areas.
