Independent Member for Audit & Governance Committee
North West Leicestershire District Council looking to appoint two independent members to join its Audit and Governance Committee for a four-year term.
The Council's Audit and Governance Committee plays a key part of the Council's corporate governance arrangements, providing assurance with high-level focus on risk management, governance, financial controls, annual accounts and the work of internal and external auditors.
You will be the independent members of the Audit and Governance Committee alongside nine councillors. The independent members serve for a term of four years, subject to approval of the Committee. As an independent member you will be required to abide by the principles of the Councillors' Code of Conduct, which sets out standards of behaviour expected from all members. Additionally, you will be required to complete a Register of Interests form on an annual basis.
The estimated time commitment required to undertake the role will vary, on average it will involve attending five evening meetings a year and the associated preparation prior to those meetings i.e. reading the prepared papers and undertaking training alongside the other Committee members throughout the year.
The Audit and Governance Committee is responsible for promoting and ensuring excellence in governance, risk management, financial reporting and counter-fraud.
