Huntingdon House School is a small, independent specialist school preparing to open soon in the heart of Ashby de la Zouch.

Funded by local authorities, we will provide a highly personalised education for a maximum of 35 students aged 10–16, all of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The HLTA will work closely with Class Teachers to support and deliver learning across the school.

You will plan, prepare and teach lessons for individuals, small groups, and whole classes, adapting activities to meet individual needs.

You will also take a lead role in the classroom in the absence of teachers, and support the wider development of the school through mentoring and guidance of less experienced staff.

You will work across a range of classes, supporting the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum, contributing to the holistic development of each student, and promoting independence, engagement, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and lead learning in the classroom across individuals, small groups, and whole classes.
  • Assist Class Teachers with planning, preparation and curriculum delivery.
  • Support pupils' academic, social, emotional and physical development.
  • Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to EHCP planning, reviews, and individual learning plans.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced Teaching Assistants.
  • Promote safeguarding, inclusion, independence, and positive behaviour.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has HLTA qualification or equivalent Level 4 experience.
  • Has experience supporting pupils with SEN, including Autism, ADHD or complex learning needs.
  • Is confident leading learning in the absence of a teacher.
  • Can adapt learning approaches creatively to meet individual needs.
  • Works collaboratively, communicates effectively, and models professional practice.
  • Is flexible, resilient, and committed to the holistic development of students.

Hours: 33.75 hours per week. Term time only, 39 weeks per year (including training days)

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of shaping a brand-new specialist school.
  • Small class sizes and highly personalised teaching.
  • Collaborative and supportive staff team.
  • A beautiful and calm working environment in central Ashby de la Zouch.
  • Opportunity to develop your SEN expertise and career progression.

If you are passionate about making a difference for students with special educational needs and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative setting, we would love to hear from you.
