The 7th Ashby's Big Tidy Up takes Saturday 21st May 2022

In association with NWL District Council and Ashby Town Council the seventh litter pick is being organised throughout Ashby by the Ashby Hastings Rotary Club and the Love Ashby Litter Picking Heroes group.

Anyone can volunteer to help. No experience is necessary but experienced Litter Pickers are encouraged to act as Team Leaders (Lead Litter Pickers) for less experienced volunteers. Young people under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Volunteers who have their own equipment and who wish to be independent can start litter picking from home and work their way to the Leisure Centre in Hood Park. Volunteers needing equipment and some guidance can choose their starting place from one of ten locations around Ashby. The starting locations have been chosen to ensure that every part of the town is covered and to avoid too many pickers at any one place.

Litter pickers and safety vests can be borrowed but are the property of the District Council and must be returned at the end of the event.

ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE ASKED TO REGISTER to aid organisation and any required communication, and for safety and insurance purposes.

All volunteers, who should wear suitable clothing, sturdy gloves and appropriate footwear, will assemble at their agreed starting point at 1.45pm where litter picks, bags and safety vests will be issued by the leader. Please note that due to a possible shortage of litter picks and safety vests it would a great help if volunteers would bring their own if they have them. The leader will indicate the route volunteers should take to avoid overcrowding and ensure total coverage of the town.

At 1.45pm volunteers begin picking litter, along their chosen or agreed route, each making their way to Hood Park Leisure Centre Sports Hall where free refreshments will be provided.

Please be sure to return your litter picker; these belong to the District Council and are a loss to the community if not returned. 

Youngsters will be able exchange the rubbish they collect for a reward and a special badge!
