North West Leicestershire District Council's Health and Wellbeing Team are making an opportunity available to organisations and community groups that want to make a difference to the physical activity of residents in the area.

They are inviting groups or organisations in the Ashby area to submit an expression of interest in co-creating a programme within their community that specifically targets inactive groups, aiming to increase their level of physical activity.

A letter which could signal the start of huge changes to the way local councils in Leicestershire are set up has been sent to the Government by Nick Rushton.

The Leicestershire County Councilleader - and Ashby Town Councillor - penned the letter to the Secretary of State for housing, communities and local government, Robert Jenrick MP, earlier this month after the Tory cabinet at County Hall gave the nod.

The Campaign to Reopen the Ivanhoe line has received another boost after the award of a grant letter from the Department for Transport's Restoring Your Railway initiative.

Of the 10 initial winners, CRIL is the first private organisation to receive such an award from the DfT who have adjusted their procedures to allow for groups such as this to receive grants in the future.

The Friends of Ashby Bath Grounds say many of the town's residents are concerned about the Royal Hotel falling into a state of deterioration - which is why Historic England has been asked to put it on the 'At Risk' register.

Historic England has responded but explained that for the hotel to be added to the register, the local authority has to 'trigger a request' - and this has been delayed by the Covid-19 emergency.
