Ashby MP Andrew Bridgen is urging people to check before giving to charity to ensure their donations reach genuine organisations this Christmas.

Action Fraud, the Charity Commission and the Fundraising Regulator have warned that while the vast majority of fundraising appeals and collections are genuine, criminals can set up fake charities, or even impersonate well-known charitable organisations, to deceive victims.

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has set out a provisional list of events for 2021 - depending on the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the new year.

With almost all of last year's calendar wiped out in the town due to the pandemic, the council's Events & Entertainment Committee saw plans for the coming 12 months.

A man who was hit by a lorry on the A511 Ashby by-pass yesterday (Wednesday) has sadly died

Derbyshire Police say they received a call just after 5.45am to the A511 Ashby Road to reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian.

An empty former card shop in Ashby has been turned into a Nativity scene by a local church.

The space has been temporarily given to Ashby Methodist Church who came up with the idea of using the vacant shop.

Ashby Ivanhoe FC chairman Stuart Bonser sadly lost his father Barry last weekend.

Stuart has written the following tribute to him.

As a medical professional, Coalville GP Sean Ottey knows exactly what difference being flown to hospital by the local air ambulance made to his recovery after he suffered a cardiac arrest whilst exercising at an Ashby leisure centre.

"It's all down to time. Getting the right treatment as quickly as possible is absolutely crucial in terms of minimising damage to the heart muscle, memory and brain," he explained.

Time Consortium is shutting its Market Street store on Christmas Eve with the owners David and Melanie Hamp-Gopsill deciding to leave primarily to retire.

Richard and Angela Bebbington will be staging their own Santa Half Marathon next Saturday (December 12th).

Team Bebbo's Santa Run 2020 will be in aid of Rotary Club of Ashby-de-la-Zouch Castle.
