Environmentally friendly residents in North West Leicestershire have helped to boost the district's household recycling rate by 1.3 per cent, new figures have revealed.

In 2019, North West Leicestershire District Council launched its Recycle More… campaign which aims to improve the district's recycling rate to 50 per cent by 2023.

Ashby Foodbank is based at the Congregational Church

Leicestershire housebuilder David Wilson Homes has donated £250 to Ashby Foodbank to help its volunteers continue to help those in need during the Covid-19 crisis.

Based at Ashby Congregational Church, the foodbank's distribution was approximately 1.5 times higher in 2020 compared with the previous year and, in December alone, its volunteers delivered 4.1 tonnes of food to 88 families.

Plans to convert an Ashby care home into a 'new secure residential institution facility' could get the go-ahead week - despite hundreds of local residents campaigning to stop the development.

Next Tuesday's meeting of North West Leicestershire District Council's planning committee will discuss the application by Rushcliffe Care Group to convert Loudon House, in Ridgway Road, with advice that it should be permitted - but only with conditions designed to allay the fears of people living in the area.
