The high rate of Covid-19 infections in South Derbyshire is causing concern for the county's public health chief, with many reasons said to be causing the continued spread.

Dean Wallace, director of public health for Derbyshire County Council, said that there was no one single cause for the higher rate in the district.

The day after Ashby was highlighted as a Covid 'hotspot', North West Leicestershire returned the second highest infection seven-day rate in the county.

While the figures are down massively from their January highs of more than 400 cases per 100,000 people in the district, the rates are second only to Leicester in the county of Leicestershire.
