North West Leicestershire has now recorded 6,000 coronavirus cases since the pandemic started over a year ago.

Today's figures for the county revealed another 18 cases in the district.

North West Leicestershire's seven day infection rate has now fallen to 82 cases per 100,000 of the population.

That is second only to the City of Leicester in terms of the rest of the county.

More than 130 new Covid cases were confirmed across the city and county yesterday (Monday).

In total there were 132 new infections identified – 44 in Leicester and 88 spread across Leicestershire.

In Charnwood there were 25 new cases and 22 were added in Hinckley and Bosworth.

All other areas of the county saw a single-digit increase. Blaby added nine cases, Oadby and Wigston saw six, there were five in Melton and Harborough added three.

The new cases, updated on Monday at 4pm, mean that the total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are :

• Leicester: 35,659
• Blaby: 6934
• Charnwood: 12,264
• Harborough: 5,044
• Hinckley and Bosworth: 6,003
• Melton: 2,616
• North West Leicestershire: 6,000
• Oadby and Wigston: 6,875

• Leicester: 115.7 cases per 100,000 (410 cases in the last seven days)
• Blaby: 69.9 cases per 100,000 (71)
• Charnwood: 75.9 cases per 100,000 (141)
• Harborough: 57.6 cases per 100,000 (54)
• Hinckley and Bosworth: 67.2 cases per 100,000 (76)
• Melton: 70.3 cases per 100,000 (36)
• North West Leicestershire: 82 cases per 100,000 (85)
• Oadby and Wigston: 78.9 cases per 100,000 (45)
