Flood warning issued for the Gilwiskaw Brook at Packington with further rainfall due

A flood warning has been issued for Packington following heavy rain during Wednesday which is expected to last until mid-day on Thursday.

The Gov.UK website warns that 'flooding of property is possible'.

It says: "River levels are rising at the Packington river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding of property is possible today (Wednesday).

"Further rainfall is forecast until midday Thursday.

"We expect river levels to rise during Wednesday.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are checking defences and actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.

"Please activate any property flood protection products you may have, such as flood barriers and air brick covers and call 999 if in immediate danger.

"This message will be updated on Thursday, or as the situation changes."

The flood warning area is: Gilwiskaw Brook at Packington including Mill Street and Brook Close.

Gov.UK says If a warning is issued, you should:

  • protect yourself and your loved ones
  • move your loved ones, pets and valuables to a safe place
  • move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building
  • turn off the gas, electricity and water in your home if it's safe
  • put flood protection equipment in place
  • do as the emergency services tell you
  • help others if it's safe to do so

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning across Leicestershire. This will last until 12:00 on Thursday.
