Coronavirus: Dramatic Drop In Newly Recorded Cases Across Leicestershire

There has been a dramatic drop in the number of newly confirmed coronavirus cases in Leicester and Leicestershire.

More than 350 cases were confirmed both yesterday (Thursday) and on Wednesday, before that there were six days when cases topped 200.

Today (Friday), just 128 new cases have been confirmed. Some 56 cases were in the city with the remaining 72 spread across the county.

Broken down to district and borough level, Charnwood added 22 new cases to its rolling toll.

Both Oadby and Wigston and Hinckley and Bosworth's totals have increased by 15, and Blaby saw 11 new infections identified.

Five cases were recorded in North West Leicestershire, three in Harborough and just one in Melton.

Yesterday there were 366 cases added to the daily dashboard in the city and county.

The local cumulative (since the start of the pandemic) figures for Friday October 16 are:

Leicester: 8,439 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 2,382

Blaby: 1,120 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,103

Charnwood: 2,004 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,078

Harborough: 767 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 817

Hinckley and Bosworth: 982 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 868

Melton: 373 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 728

North West Leicestershire: 650 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 627

Oadby and Wigston: 1,021 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,790

In other coronavirus news, the owners of a Leicester bar have decided to close it after their business was 'reported for not complying with the Tier 2 coronavirus restrictions'.

The owners of Babelas Continental Bar, in Queens Road, in the Clarendon Park area of the city decided to close the bar for the time being, rather than risk a fine.

The local cumulative (since the start of the pandemic) figures for Thursday October 15 were:

Leicester: 8,383 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 2,367

Blaby: 1,109 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,092

Charnwood: 1,982 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,066

Harborough: 764 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 814

Hinckley and Bosworth: 967 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 855

Melton: 372 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 726

North West Leicestershire: 645 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 623

Oadby and Wigston: 1,006 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,764
