Are you looking for a rewarding job with regular shift pattern and the possibility of working extra hours? Could you be flexible in providing additional support for evenings or night shifts both short notice and planned? Are you able to work on your own?
Then read on; this job gives the opportunity to join our Central Control Team early in 2026 and preferably no later than mid-February due to the current post holder's retirement. It is a fixed shift pattern covering afternoons working from 12.00 noon to 5.00pm weekly Monday through to Friday. Some degree of flexibility is required to complete training, attend team meetings and possibly occasionally cover other shifts or swop shifts.
Central Control is an important part of the Council's Customer Service Team providing a 24-hours a day, 365 days a year helpline to people across the district. The team provides a vital link through telecare community alarms system for elderly or vulnerable people who might need help, depending on the circumstances, calling on the help of a named contact or the emergency services. They also answer the council's out of hours' emergency calls from people throughout the district, e.g. housing maintenance emergency calls from tenants, dangerous structures reported by the Police or other major incidents such as fire or flood.
We are looking for someone who enjoys talking to people on the telephone and who can offer reassurance to callers in a variety of situations, sometimes difficult ones, keeping calm and showing compassion if the caller is distressed.
• 25.00 hrs per week worked afternoons Monday to Friday, with an annual salary of £18,209 - £19,408
• 34 days holiday (including bank holidays) increasing to 38 days after 5 years (full time equivalent)
