A driver escaped uninjured despite in a crash on the A42 near Ashby after being freed from the car following a collision between a car and a lorry this afternoon (Thursday).

The incident took place just after 1.15pm on the northbound carriageway just north of the A511 junction.

Fire and Rescue Service Vehicles Attended from Ashby, Coalville, Castle Donington along with a Technical Rescue Team.

Ashby Fire Service posted a comment mid-afternoon confirming the driver was okay.

It reads: "Firefighters from Ashby are still in attendance at an RTC on the A42 J12 to J13. Luckily the driver of the car walked away with no injuries."

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said the Initial call was received from police advising of a Road Traffic Collision involving a car and a lorry, with reports of one person trapped.

The northbound carriageway was closed as a result.

A Leicestershire Fire & Rescue spokesman said: "The casualty was extricated prior to the Fire Service's arrival.

"Car is smoking, fire service crews have one hose reel jet currently in use."

Leicestershire Police put out a message on social media which read: "Please be aware that we are dealing with a road traffic collision on the A42 northbound, just north of the A511 junction. Please avoid this route, we will keep you updated."
