Ashby pub takes part in Leicestershire Police week of action aimed at clamping down on knife crime

Ashby's Lamb Inn in took part in a week of action by Leicestershire Police designed to combat knife crime in the county.

The Market Street pub had a 'knife arch' outside earlier this month which North West Leicestershire Police say they are offering on a rotation basis to all licensed premises in Ashby and Coalville.

The Lamb was the first to host it - with Leicestershire Police hailing the week, from November 15-21, as a success.

Across the county, during those seven days, police reported 34 arrests, nine of them for knife related offences.

In total, eight knives were recovered during 65 knife sweeps and a total of 138 knives/bladed items were recovered from knife surrender bins at six police stations.

Officers made 51 visits to people suspected, through intelligence, to be knife carriers.

When The Lamb hosted the arch, manger Alex Stanley said: "This was a voluntary procedure and will detect unwanted knifes or metal objects and also needles.

"At The Lamb we are working very hard to reduce any unnecessary crime and we want you all to feel safe and have the best night possible.

"We are supporting a positive initiative."
